Back to the office, resumption of activity, reunion with colleagues in a meeting, in the canteen or around a drink: since June 9, teleworking is no longer the rule in companies that can practice it and many of them are gradually bringing their employees back to their premises.

A prospect that worries some, converted to remote work, when others are more ambivalent or resigned. “We will have to relive as before, unfortunately”, laments Pierre-Olivier, 55, salesman for a freight airline, who responded to a call for testimonials on Lemonde.fr.

This easing is the start of a return to normal for many employees. One day, two days, three days on site: the back-to-school scenarios are as varied as the companies’ responses to questions of work autonomy, territorial mobility and employee health. Some of them – those whose profession allowed it – have worked remotely for long consecutive months, since mid-March 2020. “Discover a new way of working” and wish the “Keep even after the pandemic”, says Cyril, 24-year-old engineer, who considers himself “More efficient from a distance”.

After visiting his office for three days in the past eight months, Guillaume got the impression for wasting time in transport, in: “hi, how are you, yes, and you?” friendly colleagues and in meetings which it would be difficult to explain why they require a physical presence ”. This 46-year-old publisher opposes it “Calm, less stress, the organization of daily life (shopping, children’s school) easier, and much higher productivity” remote work.

” I am not ready “

According to a study by the Sapiens Institute released in mid-March, remote working increases employee productivity by 22%. There are many reasons, according to the think tank: a reduction in “Distractions and disturbances” – coffee breaks, extended lunches, surrounding noise – or even “Unnecessary and time-consuming meetings that hamper productivity”. The travel time saved turned into activity time or sleep time saved. Also according to this document, remote work would increase the motivation and empowerment of employees.
