a revelation which will reignite the controversy

New information regarding the Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol.1 compilation has been revealed. One thing is certain, it will not please the fans.

The Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol.1 compilation has had its ups and downs in terms of communication. Recently, it was its porting to current consoles that worried players. This has reignited the controversy around the game which is struggling to reassure its community. Unfortunately, things aren’t likely to get better. Indeed, new information regarding the collection has been revealed, and it will surely upset some people.

Players’ fears are becoming more vocal as we approach the deadline. Yes, the compilation arrives on October 24, in four days. This first best-of has suffered numerous controversies, and a brand new one has just been added to the list. However, at first glance, we believe we are dealing with something positive. For good reason, a YouTuber who had a copy of the game in advance broadcast it during a stream. He revealed the existence of a new feature: the ability to pause cutscenes. But it doesn’t work as expected.

In general, when you pause, there is no delay between the moment you press and the moment the game stops to show you the menu. But Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 1 is not like the others. Therefore, when you press the pause button, it takes ten seconds before it starts. This shocked quite a few players, and rightly so. Still, this is such a strange issue that it’s hard to believe it will be there on the day. A few people are raising the possibility of a bug that Konami simply hasn’t noticed. Now that the finger has been pointed out, a fix will surely be added accordingly.

A portage that does not reassure

The port of the Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 1 is one of the elements that has been the most controversial. Konami notably confirmed that Metal Gear Solid 2 & 3 would offer 1080p at 30fps on Nintendo Switch, if connected to the TV (720p in portable mode). For the other versions, that is to say PC, PS4, PS5 and Xbox Series, you should not expect better. We will have 1080 at 60fps, without 4K upscale, knowing that the framerate will not be stable. However, this does not concern MGS 1 which will always be in… 30fps. For the fans, the pill is difficult to pass.

For comparison, MGS 2 Sons of Liberty & MGS 3 Snake Eater benefited from 60fps on PS3 and Xbox 360 in other HD compilations. Technologies are no longer the same and yet we have technical performances that do not live up to what we might hope for. Feedback from the community is therefore eagerly awaited, hoping that we are not dealing with too lazy porting.
