A second Bitcoin miner manages to add a block to the Bitcoin network

Another miner operating solo on the Bitcoin (BTC) network with a hashing capacity of 116 terahashes per second (TH/s) won a block race on the network: he obtained the block reward of BTC 6.25 plus a fee reward of 0.018 BTC, which is a cumulative value of over $274,041 at the current rate.

Since Bitcoin’s total hash rate is currently over 176 exahashes per second (EH/s), the lucky winner’s hash rate is less than 0.000072% of that total. In other words, he defied the odds of 1 in 1,400,000 to win the block race.

As reported earlier this week, a solo miner with only 126 TH/s added a new valid block to the Bitcoin network.

These two miners are part of a solo mining pool called Solo CK, which has nearly doubled its hashrate share since the start of the week.

As of Wednesday, the mining pool ranked 15th on the list of Bitcoin mining pools, with a 0.23% share of the network. However, it now ranks 13th on the list and accounts for 0.45% of Bitcoin’s hashrate, according to BTC.com.

The lucky miner is also among the new miners joining the pool.

“I got confirmation that this is indeed a new miner, who joined the pool less than two days ago, and who was given an astronomical chance to be able to solve a block solo during this period”, tweeted Con Kolivas, administrator of Solo CK.

Although some have worried about a potential hack, Con Kolivas assured that there was no exploit: according to him, it is simply “the stochastic nature of block resolution and resolutions extremely lucky ones are expected randomly from time to time”.
