Emmanuel Macron receives a thousand mayors at the Élysée this Wednesday evening to thank them for their commitment in a complicated context for these elected officials. An event which is being held in parallel with the Congress of Mayors of France where the President of the Republic was once again absent.

Thank and reassure. These are the two objectives that Emmanuel Macron is trying to fulfill this Wednesday evening during a cocktail at the Élysée to which a thousand mayors are invited. A reception which comes after a year 2023 marked by the increase in violence against local elected officials. The president will speak to express his thanks to the mayors and assure them of the support of the executive in this difficult period.

The Elysée refutes disagreements

Emmanuel Macron is therefore embarking on a seduction operation when he has once again decided not to deliver the closing speech to the congress of mayors of France which is being held in parallel with the Elysee reception. A choice which has far from gone unnoticed by certain elected officials who have difficulty digesting this absence. To show their dissatisfaction, they decided to boycott the cocktail.

For several months, unease has been growing between elected officials and the executive. However, at the Elysée, we assure that tackling the uneasiness of mayors is one of Emmanuel Macron’s priorities. To show his support, the president does not hesitate to highlight the adoption in the Senate of the bill transpartisan adopted by the Senate in order to strengthen the repressive arsenal in the face of violence against elected officials.
