The Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games aim to be at the forefront of the latest trends in mobility. Toyota, their partner on this file, has already unveiled the system deployed during the competitions. To ensure the last kilometer routes, the Japanese car manufacturer has developed 250 electric shuttles accessible to all users, which can be transformed quickly to accommodate wheelchairs. Mobility for the Paris 2024 Games also includes carts, motorized three-wheelers and electric scooters. Finally, a fleet of 150 zero-emission and accessible utility vehicles completes this panorama.

Toyota is also planning a fleet of 2,650 electrified cars. Within this set are 1,000 hybrid and plug-in hybrid vehicles. Around 60% of this fleet will travel using electric energy alone, including 500 vehicles using hydrogen. With the final objective of Toyota and Paris 2024 in mind: halving emissions linked to travel compared to the Tokyo Games.

Ahead of the hydrogen issue, the manufacturer will take advantage of this global showcase to display the performance of the Mirai, its sedan whose exhaust only emits a little water. This sobriety has a price: 72,250 euros in the entry -level version. Toyota will also show its hydrogen know-how thanks to buses, trucks, lifting carts, boats and pick-ups.

Zero Project Emission Valley

Hydrogen also makes its way through voluntary public policies, such as that of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region which, associated with private partners, launched the Zero Emission Valley project in 2017. Its objective: to deploy more 400 cars and utilities, and more than 115 buses, trucks and hydrogen coaches on its territory, current 2024. With the financing and creation of stations, it wants to encourage manufacturers to develop serial vehicles, while they are back in front of The low number of refueling places.

The project brings together the region, Engie, Michelin, the Banque des Territoires (Caisse des Dépôts et Consignations) and Crédit Agricole within Hympulsion, a commercial company responsible for the development of the different stages. This installs the infrastructure, operates it and sells the hydrogen. The company ordered its first two stations in Atawey: a refueling point was opened in February 2021 in the Chambéry metropolitan area and a second in June 2022 in Moûtiers (Savoie). Three additional locations built by Atawey will be inaugurated in Annecy, Valence and Salaise-sur-Sanne (Isère) in 2024.
