“A story of space and time”: after Dune, director Denis Villeneuve is preparing his Interstellar


Killers of the Flower Moon screenwriter Eric Roth reveals he wrote a mystery film for “Dune” director Denis Villeneuve.

Guest of the “A Script Apart” podcast, Eric Roth, who co-wrote the screenplay for Killers of the Flower Moon alongside Martin Scorsese, said he had written a film for Denis Villeneuve, director of the Dune saga. However, he added that he was not sure what would become of the project.

MEETING WITH RAMA

At the end of 2021, The Hollywood Reporter wrote that Denis Villeneuve would direct an adaptation of the story for Alcon Entertainment, which would finance the project. Meeting with Rama is a science fiction novel by the legendary writer Arthur C. Clarkereleased in 1973 and often touted as one of his greatest books.

The story follows a group of human explorers who intercept an alien ship called “Rama” and attempt to unravel its many mysteries. The novel won the Hugo and Nebula awards upon its release.

In the early 2000s, Morgan Freeman also expressed his desire to produce a film based on the book. The 2021 Hollywood Reporter article notes that he and producer Lori McCreary, who both previously held the rights to adapt the story, would produce the version of Denis Villeneuve.

While waiting to find out more, know that Dune: Part II will debut in cinemas on February 28, 2024.
