a sudden change for the future? It will divide!

Now that Phantom Liberty is available, CD Projekt Red can express itself on Cyberpunk 2077. And obviously, Cyberpunk 2 could perhaps lose its identity.

The big Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty expansion is finally out and for the moment, the start seems very good. In its latest report with its investors, the studio indicated that it sold 3 million copies during the launch week. Very solid sales dominated by the PC (68%), followed by the PS5 (20%) and the Xbox Series (12%). The main game has exceeded 25 million units sold. It’s beautiful, even if the title could probably have been higher without all the problems that damaged it. Either way, it bodes well for Cyberpunk 2 which is still providing news.

Cyberpunk 2 could surprise players

The Phantom Liberty DLC is out, Cyberpunk 2077’s massive 2.0 update is out as well, so CD Projekt Red can move on and in truth already has. In a recent interview, game director Gabe Amatangelo announced the end of CP2077’s follow-up. “We’ll do a little more, but patch 2.0 and the Phantom Liberty DLC are the last big updates. Next up is Cyberpunk 2. Or “Orion” I should say, whatever you want to call it.”.

During the interview with the shareholders, Pawel Sasko, director of quests on Cyberpunk 2077, took stock of this colossal project and particularly focused on the choice of the first person. A perspective defended body and soul by the developers, but which has been questioned by certain players. The teams did not ” no regrets “. So will Cyberpunk 2 also be in first-person view? A change could occur as nothing has been decided, even if it is part of the identity of the license.

“I wanted to say that first person view is the main feature of Cyberpunk 2077. And that’s how players identify the title as well. The game is also very different from The Witcher, which allowed us to assert the identity of the product. But for Project Orion (editor’s note: aka Cyberpunk), it remains to be seen.”

Cyberpunk 2077 sequel not ready for release

The subjective view is indeed an integral part of the Cyberpunk 2077 experience, and CD Projekt Red designed the game for this point of view. A change could therefore modify the desired immersion in the first episode, which would perhaps be detrimental to Cyberpunk 2. But no decision has been made and the studio is just not ruling out any possibility here. In any case, the developers will have plenty of time to think about this aspect given that the sequel is not close to seeing the light of day.

We already knew it, but Adam Badowski, chief creative officer, declares that Cyberpunk 2 is at the design stage. During this essential stage, the teams will work on the general idea of the game. “This project is currently at the design stage. It will be developed by a group of veterans who were responsible for improving Cyberpunk 2077, and developing the Phantom Liberty expansion. We will work from North America, in Vancouver and Boston. At the end of 2024, there will be teams made up of around ten people. Half of the developers will work in the United States, while the other will be in Poland ».

Cyberpunk 2 will therefore not be ready for a few years, and in total, CD Projekt has already planned to assign between 350 and 550 developers to it. The project leaders were not chosen at random, but with the aim of not repeating past mistakes.
