CL semi-final: second leg – Dortmund and the aluminum let Paris’s final dreams burst – sport

  • Borussia Dortmund wins the semi-final second leg of the Champions League away against Paris St-Germain 1-0 (overall score 2-0).
  • The winning goal in the Parc des Princes was scored by the completely unmarked Mats Hummels after a corner. PSG are unlucky with 2 hits on the post and 2 crossbars.
  • BVB is in the final of the premier class for the first time since the 2012/13 season and will face Real Madrid or Bayern Munich.

Borussia Dortmund is heading to London! For the first time in 11 years, BVB is in the final of the Champions League and will play for the trophy at Wembley on June 1st. The Black and Yellows deserved this chance with a mature team performance. The home team clearly had more of the game, but bit their teeth at the BVB defense time after time.

Dortmund also claimed a pinch – or rather two to three tablespoons – of luck in the Parc des Princes. PSG hit the woodwork no fewer than four times.

The first of two shots on the post occurred immediately after the restart, when Warren Zaïre-Emery had an open goal in front of him after a corner kick at the second post. Gregor Kobel would probably have been beaten, but the PSG youngster put the ball on the outside post when he took it directly.

Just minutes later, the only goal of the game came from the other side. Mats Hummels was also forgotten at the back post after a corner from Julian Brandt. The BVB defender made merciless use of his freedom and headed the ball home to make it 1-0 for the guests.

Hummels almost causes a penalty

Hummels was the focus again a quarter of an hour later – after another hit on the post by Nuno Mendes. The BVB veteran came a step too late close to the edge of the penalty area against Ousmane Dembélé and hit the striker on the foot.

Referee Daniele Orsato was immediately sure of his case and correctly awarded a free kick. The contact had taken place just in front of the line. However, Marco Asensio was unable to take advantage of the promising opportunity to equalize. He shot down his own teammate.

PSG then continued to press vehemently for the equalizer. The home team would have needed two goals to at least force extra time. But Luis Enrique’s team failed time after time because of Dortmund’s solidarity-based defense. Kylian Mbappé with a deflected shot (86th) and Vitinha (88th) with a long-range shot also failed to hit the crossbar.

BVB with the best chance before the break

Before the break, the game had significantly fewer highlights. PSG mostly let the ball pass through their own ranks, but Dortmund had the best opportunity to take the lead. After Hummels prevented Mbappé from finishing with a tackle in extremis, BVB counterattacked. Gianluigi Donnarumma prevented the visitors from making it 1-0 with a brilliant effort in the 35th minute after Karim Adeyemi had run away.

Apart from this action and the goal against which Donnarumma was powerless, the Italian spent a much quieter evening than his counterpart. On the other hand, Kobel should be much happier with the outcome of the game.
