a surprise patch has just changed the ending of the game

Against all expectations, FF7 Remake got a new update with, among other things, a really bizarre change to its ending. Is there a connection with Rebirth?

FF7 Rebirth is in two days. Suffice it to say that the community is ready to dive into it body and soul. We have almost nothing left to say about the game, because it will soon be time for discovery. However, before his arrival, something strange happened. The first chapter of the remake, released in 2020, has just received a new update. On paper, why not, but one of the changes noticed by the players caused general surprise.

A new patch for FF7 Remake, with a special change

First, let’s review the small new features of update 1.003 which was deployed on PlayStation and PC. The patch note has not been revealed, but we know that FF7 Remake was entitled to various and varied fixes. Nothing abnormal, that’s also the purpose of an update, so everything is fine. Then, a user on ResetEra noticed that Tifa’s outfit in the flashback to Nibelheim was slightly changed. She now has a black colored undershirt in addition to the white shirt. A look that matches the one we see in Rebirth, hence the retouching.

The other change, perhaps more significant, concerns the FFVIIHook mod. We are not going to describe it in detail, just remember that it was used to tackle many technical problems of FF7 Remake on PC. The problem is that it is no longer compatible with the new update. It goes without saying that this may make some people disappointed, especially since some people do not understand the reasons behind this choice. Unfortunately, Square Enix does not seem ready to turn back.

We end with the novelty which disturbed some fans of FF7 Remake. Remember, at the end of the game, Aerith says the following sentence: “I miss it, the steel sky” which was translated into French in “the sky… is so cruel”. This is a reference to the immense plates of Midgar that the young woman has always seen, thus protecting her from the sky. The problem is that this new patch transformed the sentence into a question. From now on, she says “The sky…I don’t like it”. This line of dialogue, considered to be less impactful, was modified for an unknown reason. Does this have anything to do with the events of Rebirth? In itself, that could explain it, but for the moment, we are in the dark.
