That’s what the documentary is about

At least one in six pregnancies ends in miscarriage. But many women do not dare to speak openly about it. Because those around them often do not recognize the scope of the loss, and do not encounter the affected women and men as grieving parents who have lost their child. They keep their feelings to themselves, many feel ashamed and feel left alone.

For medical professionals, miscarriages are the order of the day. Nature is wasteful, not all embryos grow into viable children. This is often due to developmental disorders. If a miscarriage then occurs, an automatism often takes effect in practices and clinics: treat quickly, surgically remove it quickly. Responding appropriately to the shock of the woman concerned, acknowledging the loss of the child and informing them calmly – there is often a lack of knowledge and time for this. Couples who feel well looked after and treated cope much better with a miscarriage. But such offers are far too rare.

Rahel and Adrian have experienced four miscarriages. Most recently Xavier: His heart stopped beating in the 22nd week of pregnancy. Assisted by a midwife who specializes in miscarriages, the couple decided to wait out the natural birth in order to say their goodbyes in peace. You haven’t lost heart. In April, Rahel’s and Adrian’s daughter Salome was born healthy.

Julia was also hopeful – she lost her son in the 17th week of pregnancy. In a special rehabilitation course with other affected women, she found a common destiny that helped to process what she had experienced.
