A third of the companies want to invest

In the course of a survey by the Federal Association of the Digital Economy (BVDW), more than 100 executives from digital companies and service providers were asked about the development of the Metaverse between the end of June and mid-July 2022. That comes from one contribution of the media magazine Meedia.

According to this, 82 percent of those surveyed answered that they see great opportunities for the metaverse, especially in the fashion industry. The clothing industry is already working closely with the entertainment industry, it said. We are talking about fashion shows in the metaverse and virtual branded clothing for avatars or main characters in video games to create new experiences for users.

According to the report, the marketing/PR and e-commerce sectors (87 percent) are expected to experience the fastest development in the new digital reality. Regarding the own investment ambitions of the managers surveyed in the Metaverse area, the following result emerges: A third of the respondents (35 percent) want to invest in the sector in the next two years. Another third (34 percent) said they were undecided. According to the report, 26 percent of those surveyed have no plans to invest in the virtual parallel world.

In order to develop this potential, however, the labor market in Germany needs to be prepared accordingly, it is also said. Above all, preparing the next generation for future technologies is important.

Gaming and NFTs under criticism

The gaming sector in particular is considered a Metaverse pioneer. In recent years, the idea of ​​an immersive, virtual parallel world in the gaming sector has already been triggered by virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR). The metaverse would be the next logical step.

But the gaming scene tends to be critical of game developers’ plans for Metaverse, NFTs and the like. This is also the case with the first attempts by game manufacturer Ubisoft to integrate NFTs into new titles: In a partnership with Tezos, Ubisoft enabled its users to purchase virtual items in the form of NFTs via the Quartz platform and use them within the game. The community reacted with outrage – BTC-ECHO reported.
