The remake of the cult film The Crown, starring Bill Skarsgård (It, John Wick), is shown with a first trailer. A highly anticipated project but which receives a lot of negative reviews.
The original film The Crow, released in 1994 and directed by Alex Proyas (Dark City, I Robot), is as cult as it is cursed. The adaptation of James O’Barr’s comics was indeed shaken by the accidental death of Brandon Lee, son of Bruce Lee. During filming, a gun, supposedly firing blanks, killed the then 28-year-old actor. 30 years later, the feature film is returning with a new version which already has its detractors. A first trailer for the remake of The Crow
After fifteen years, and many twists and turns, the remake of The Crow is shown on video. This time, Eric Draven is played by the Swedish Bill Skarsgård, who we could see as Pennywise in the latest It films by Andy Muschietti (The Flash). On the other hand, the synopsis has not changed one iota and is faithful to the 1989 comics. And by extension to the feature film with Brandon Lee. While Eric Craven and his fiancée Shelley Webster, played by FKA Twigs, are in perfect love, their lives are turned upside down when the young woman is followed home by thugs. The latter assassinated him with a plastic bag over his head. Eric watches helplessly at the scene before suffering the same fate.
He should therefore be dead, but his soul is not yet ready to find rest, and becomes The Crow. A vengeful spirit who intends to wipe his tormentors off the map. The first trailer reveals a very violent, bloody feature film, which could somehow remind us of John Wick. And this is precisely a point that is very displeasing. In the reviews, Internet users complain that the entire Gothic aspect has been erased. Many also believe that we are dealing more with Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker than anything else.
Director Alex Proyas destroys the project
Ahead of the release of the trailer for The Crow Remake, Alex Proyas, the director of the original, stepped up to the plate. And the first image he saw made him come off his hinges.
I guess he’s supposed to be a real motherf***er with all those tattoos and werewolves and skulls on his jacket. (…) At least I had a good laugh. I thought for a moment they were going to shit about Brandon Lee’s legacy. It’s Brandon’s movie. I think this is a special case and that Hollywood should just let it be a testament to one man’s immense talent and ultimate sacrifice – and not let others rewrite this story or expand on it. I know that sequels have been made, series, and what have you, but the notion of rebooting this story and the original character – who Brandon overpaid for bringing to life – doesn’t seem right to me. Please let this be Brandon’s movie.
