“A void that nothing can fill”: Izia Higelin confides in the mourning of her father
Izia Higelin is still in mourning. Four years after the death of her father, Jacques Higelin, the singer confided in her suffering.
On June 3, Izia Higelin will release a new album, called Speed. An album filled with love and nostalgia. It must be said that the singer is the daughter of Jacques Higelin, who died on April 6, 2018. If the causes of his death have never been revealed, the artist still misses his children so much. Thus, his daughter Izia confided in her sadness in the columns of Psychologies magazine: “I was raised by someone exceptional. An artist, hypersensitive like me, a poet, a father who loved me with absolute love”, she begins by declaring.
Izia Higelin then launches into a magnificent declaration of love: “It’s a wonderful gift, but it’s also a burden. Because when you lose that person you loved more than anything, you can never be the same person again.” But for the singer, the gaping hole in her chest does not close: “The lack of my father is violent, she admits. That of his gaze on me is a void that nothing and no one can fill. It will make me limp all my life. But it’s like that”.
Izia Higelin: “I feel permanently connected to him”
The singer admits that her father’s death is part of her story: “That too is part of me, and I put it in my music or in my relationship with people. Afterwards, knowing death up close is also becoming aware of the beauty and fragility of existence . It opens up an incredible spectrum for you. I feel connected to him all the time.” And even if she is no longer in a relationship with her companionshe admits that this one helped her a lot: “The bond I have with him is my greatest achievement. He’s my soul mate – or my soul brother. We often say that we met to have a child and music together, and we did it. (…) We created another form of love.”
