  • Aldi currently has many different e-bikes on offer in its online shop.
  • Among other things, the discounter sells a city bike with a long range.
  • The model has already been available from Aldi several times, but for a whopping 400 euros more.

Are you still looking for a new e-bike to start spring? Then now is the right time to do it, even if the weather is currently unlikely to entice anyone to go on a bike tour. The prices at dealers are currently really good; This is likely to change again when the temperatures rise and there is more sunshine – after all, everyone will storm the bicycle dealers and online shops.

At the beginning of February there are real bargains at Aldi, among others, especially for simpler and therefore cheaper Pedelecs. A current highlight for bargain hunters is the city bike from Prophete. This was already available at the discounter last year, but at the time it was an impressive 400 euros more – and even that was a good deal. This is now even better and you can get an e-bike for short tours or shopping for just under 1,000 euros.

The city bike has 28-inch rims and a mid-engine from TRIO e-novation is installed as the engine. This supports you with up to 50 Newton meters. A decent performance that is sufficient even for steep climbs.

The battery is located between the seat tube and the rear wheel. The capacity is 461 watt hours. According to the manufacturer, a range of up to 140 kilometers is possible. From our point of view, this is a somewhat optimistic value that would only be possible at the lowest support level.

Magura brakes and Shimano gears

The gears are a Shimano Nexus Inter hub gear with 7 gears. This is controlled via a twist grip on the handlebars. There are no hydraulic disc brakes, but that’s bearable given the price. Instead, hydraulic rim brakes are installed – at least relatively good ones from brand manufacturer Magura.

Further equipment includes a suspension fork from Suntour, an installed lighting system and a pushing aid up to 6 km/h. The bike itself weighs around 27 kilograms, the maximum permissible total weight is 140 kilograms.

The city bike from the discounter is rock solid. The inexpensive mid-motor offers good support power, the battery capacity is appropriate for the price and is in the middle range compared to high-priced bikes. Apart from that, the components installed are decent and sometimes come from well-known manufacturers.

Higher-priced bikes offer more powerful disc brakes, higher-quality components and engines from established manufacturers – but they also quickly cost a few thousand euros more. From our point of view, the e-bike is sufficient for short tours, shopping, etc.
