A woman has been charged after the discovery last month of the bodies of newborns in garbage bags under a pile of wood near Angers.
A 41-year-old woman was indicted on Thursday for the murder of two newborn babies, whose bodies were found in garbage bags under a pile of wood in Ombrée d’Anjou (Maine-et-Loire), announced the Angers public prosecutor’s office.
Placed in police custody on Tuesday, the woman admitted to being the mother of the two newborns, claiming to have given birth alone after two unwanted pregnancies, said Angers prosecutor Eric Bouillard during a press conference.
The mother did not say she killed her children but “hugs them tight”, according to the prosecutor. “It may look like death by suffocation but the state of the bodies does not allow us to be more precise,” added Mr. Bouillard.
“The father from whom she is now separated did not know that she was pregnant” and is not implicated, according to the prosecutor.
Released under judicial supervision
The bodies, in an advanced state of putrefaction, were found on May 19 by residents of a house in Ombrée d’Anjou, 50 kilometers northwest of Angers, in garbage bags under a pile of wood. .
The birth and death dates of the newborns are not known.
The mother, who no longer lives in Maine-et-Loire, had lived in this house for ten years.
Mother of an adult child, without criminal record, inserted and having a job in CDI, she was released under judicial supervision at the end of her indictment, against the opinion of the prosecution.
