A young woman transformed into a chicken nugget? See it soon on Netflix!

This is undoubtedly Netflix’s most improbable pitch: a new Korean series called “Chicken Nugget” should surprise K-drama enthusiast subscribers.

Netflix

Choi Min-ah, the daughter of a company president, enters a mysterious machine thinking it is a device to help her combat her fatigue, and accidentally finds herself transformed into a nugget of chicken.

As her father, Choi Seon-man, and his intern, Go Baek-joong, who has a crush on her, desperately try to return her to human form, they discover unexpected secrets.

This is the pitch for Chicken Nugget, a completely crazy new South Korean series, adapted from the webtoon of the same name. On the program, drama, comedy, mystery and science fiction, all with Dakgangjeong (닭강정) sauce – the original title of the series which refers to a sweet and crispy Korean fried chicken dish.

A great cast

Absolutely absurd, the K-Drama features Ryu Seung-ryong in the role of the father. The latter is known in Korea for starring in four of the highest-grossing films in Korean cinema history – including Extreme Job (2019), the second highest-grossing film of all time in the country, an action comedy by Lee Byeong-heon who also directs Chicken Nugget.

The director is also the screenwriter of Dream, the 2023 sports comedy-drama starring singer and actress IU and comedian Park Seo-joon (The Marvels, Parasite).

The other hero of the series is played by Ahn Jae-hong (Reply 1988, Mask Girl), an actor known for his work in both cinema and television. He plays the intern who also tries to save Choi Min-ah.

Although the latter only makes a cameo appearance, she is played by actress Kim Yoo-jung, who made her acting debut at the age of 4 in 2004 and quickly became the one of Korea’s most sought-after young actresses. She is notably the star of the flagship K-Drama of 2023, My Demon, also available on Netflix.

Note that Jung Ho-yeon, who became known around the world thanks to his role as Kang Sae-byeok in Squid Game, will also make a cameo in the series.

Kind of like Honey, I Shrunk the Kids McDonald’s version, Chicken Nugget is intriguing. And speaking of McDonald’s, the brand also commented on the project:

McDonald’s: “Wait, is this play about us?” [réplique tirée de la série Euphoria très populaire sur TikTok, ndlr]

Netflix: “McDonald’s, what did you do to it?

Indeed, “that’s exactly the vibe”.

Chicken Nugget will be available “soon” on Netflix.
