Abandoned by their parents in a train station, three brothers and sisters have been looking for them for 38 years

Aged 2, 4 and 6, Elvira, Ricard and Ramon subscribed to a train station in Barcelona on April 22, 1984. Since then, they have been tirelessly looking for their parents.

Why did a Spanish couple decide to abandon their children in a Barcelona train station? This is the question that Elvira, Ricard and Ramon have been asking themselves for 38 years. Then aged 2, 4 and 6, the three siblings were abandoned on April 22, 1984 in Barcelona’s “estaciόn de Francia” (France station).after being driven there by a friend of their father, Denis, in a white Mercedes. “We started playing while waiting for him but he never came back”says Elvira, who remembers that Denis had promised to go and buy them candy, to BFMTV.

Since then, the siblings have only one thing in mind: to find those who have abandoned them. But the task is far from simple. Very young at the time of their abandonment, Elvira, Ricard and Ramon did not know their surnames or the first names of their parents. In addition, they spoke French, which greatly expanded the search area. At the time, none of the notices issued had led to the location of their family. The three toddlers were therefore adopted by a Spanish family, and lived for several decades without knowing anything about their origins. Until 2020.

“No one ever heard from us again”

Thanks to a DNA test, the siblings recently managed to find “an aunt, uncles and a whole bunch of cousins”. In particular, they revealed to them the identity of their parents, Rosario Cuetos Cruz (born in Madrid in 1949) and Ramon Martos Sanchez (born in 1949 in Seville), without telling them more about the circumstances of their disappearance. “We were shocked, we couldn’t believe what was happening to us, says Elvira. (…) When I contacted my family for the first time, the first question they themselves asked me was ‘where are your parents?’ It was… wow… I answered them: ‘oh no, it’s me who contacts you to find out where they are’. (…) From 1983, no one ever heard from us again, all five of us disappeared.”

Today, Elvira, Ricard and Ramon suspect their father of having indulged in “illegal activities” which could have caused his death and that of his companion in the 1980s.”We have so many assumptionsentrusts the youngest to our colleagues. They could have been killed, explaining why Denis would have left us at the station, but that’s only a hypothesis, I could unfold 30,000 other possible scenarios. Still today we try to understand what happened“. Understand to move forward, and to one day be able to tell her own children who their grandparents were. Now 40 years old, Elvira became a mother in the course of 2020.
