Absurd Ventures: the first two universes of Dan Houser’s studio (ex-Rockstar Games) are revealed

In 2020, we learned some very sad news for the future of Rockstar Games and the tone of its future games, namely the departure of Dan Houser, co-founder of the studio and screenwriter of all GTA released so far. His brother Sam, however, remains at the helm and he was able to bounce back by creating a new studio called Absurd Ventures, unveiled in June, whose motto will be to offer “storytelling, philanthropy and ultraviolence”. Suffice to say that the program will be joyful, but apart from a rather crazy video montage, we did not know what this young entity was working on. Recently, the account Twitter / X had once again shown signs of life and it is through this means that they have just been revealed two original licenses. However, these are not video games at the moment! We already knew that many types of media would be used, so this should come as no surprise.

The two universes are respectively called American Caper (“the American trip”) and A Better Paradise (“a better paradise”)and were revealed in the manner of a Marvel Studios by throwing out these titles and their logos. Knowing the satirical and irreverent side of Dan Houser’s games, this is probably not without reason. The first stories to be told under these two titles will be released in 2024 and here are light synopses:

  • American Caper focuses on two normal, badly damaged American families in a world of corrupt business, inept politics, and clumsy crime. American Caper will debut in the form ofa graphic novel illustrated by famous comics artist Simon Bisley.
  • A Better Paradise is an existential suspense thriller, set in the near future. A 12-episode audio fiction series based on the universe of A Better Paradise is currently in production. Absurd Ventures partners with QCODE to co-produce the audio series.

More details on these two universes, their lore and characters will soon be introduced in the coming months. Hopefully the wait will be worth it.

Moreover, two big names known to fans of Rockstar Games recently joined the ranks ofAbsurd Ventures as indicated PC Gaming. On one side we have Michael Unsworthwho was vice president of writing until last August and who now serves as director of story and creative management. On the other, it’s Lazlow Jones who became executive producer, he who occupied the role of screenwriter and producer, in addition to being an NPC in the Grand Theft Autobefore leaving Rockstar in August 2020. You will have understood, the big names who made the history of the studio owned by Take-Two Interactive come together again under the banner ofAbsurd Ventures.

You can get the recent port of Red Dead Redemption on PS4 and Switch from €39.99 on Amazon Or to the Fnac.
