Abuse in nursing homes: general manager Yves Le Masne dismissed from his post

The general manager of Orpea, Yves Le Masne, was dismissed from his post on Sunday, announced in a press release the group of retirement homes, in turmoil since Monday due to the publication of a damning investigation into its practices.

“The board of directors of the Orpea group, meeting on January 30, 2022, decided to end the functions of general manager of Mr. Yves Le Masne”, announced Orpea. Non-executive chairman of the group’s board of directors since March 2017, Philippe Charrier becomes “Chairman and CEO of the company with immediate effect”.

In his book “Les Fossoyeurs” (Ed. Fayard), the journalist Victor Castenet documents, with supporting testimonies, serious breaches of hygiene and well-being of the elderly who reside in different nursing homes of the Orpea group.

The Minister Delegate for Autonomy, Brigitte Bourguignon, announced Tuesday evening that she had summoned “as soon as possible” the director general of the French group of private clinics and retirement homes.

The minister thus wished to shed light on the “serious facts” mentioned in Victor Castanet’s investigation. “Les Fossoyeurs”, published this Wednesday and whose good sheets were published in Le Monde, describes establishments in which care is reduced to a minimum and where hygienic protection is rationed.

The giant Orpea, world leader in the EHPAD sector, indicates that it has seized its lawyers to give “all the follow-up, including on the legal level”, to the publication of the book in order “to restore the truth of the facts”.
