Remembering a password for every website you visit can be tedious. This is the reason why Amazon joins the list of sites using passkeys (editor’s note. the French translation is still quite fluid. You can use access keys, authentication key, or even pass key) to help customers to connect more easily and securely.
On Monday, Amazon announced that passkey support is now available for Amazon customers using browsers. Passkey support is rolling out for the Amazon Shopping iOS app and will soon be available for the Amazon Shopping Android app.
With passkeys, users can use the login method they used to unlock their device to sign in to their account, including fingerprint, face scan, or lock screen pin.
A safer alternative to passwords
Using passkeys is a more secure alternative to passwords because it is less likely to be phished and prevents users from accidentally sharing their login credentials with a malicious actor.
“It’s about providing customers with simultaneous ease of use and security in their Amazon experience,” said Dave Treadwell, senior vice president of e-commerce at Amazon
To activate the passkeys on Amazon, simply click on Your account > Login & Security > Set up (next to Passkeys). The user will then receive step-by-step instructions that they can follow to complete the installation.
Safari, Adobe, Google, PayPal, TikTok, Kayak, GitHub and many other sites already have passwords.
