With the final version of Android 14, Google removed a feature appreciated by Android 13 users: the ability to access notifications via a long press on an app icon.
As you know, Google rolled out the final version of Android 14 in October 2023, alongside the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro. With this new version of its flagship OS, the Mountain View firm has integrated many new features, starting with satellite emergency calls or even native support for passkeys or the AV1 video codec for example.
However, as reported by our colleagues from the site 9to5Google, the American giant has also deleted a feature appreciated by users on Android 13. Indeed, on the final version of Android 14, it is clearly no longer possible tolong press on an app icon to view its notifications.
As a reminder, on Android 13 you could see your various YouTube, Messenger or other notifications by holding your finger down on the app icon from the grid or the home page. By doing this, you could either clear the notifications via a simple swipe, or access the video/message/content by clicking on it.

This system is particularly useful, especially when the notifications panel is filled to the brim. In Android 14, a long press on an app icon only displays the shortcuts to certain features, the Information tab and finally the command to suspend its operation.
This change was first mentioned during the Android 14 beta program during the summer of 2023. In August, Google had said it would not reverse the removal of notifications in the information accessible via a long press on an app. To the great dismay of users, of whom there are many to demand the return of this functionality on the Reddit and manufacturer forums.
