A tragic accident at work happened today, Monday, in a sawmill in St. Michael im Lungau. A 22-year-old local man got his arm between the conveyor belt and the idler pulley.
The 22-year-old worker was busy cleaning a saw-section conveyor. He got his left arm between the conveyor belt and the deflection roller and was unable to get out of his predicament on his own. Another sawmill employee heard his calls for help and was able to stop the conveyor belt. The helper was only able to free the seriously injured man after cutting through the conveyor belt. After emergency medical care, the young worker was flown to the UKH Salzburg with the Martin 1 rescue helicopter. Investigations into the exact course of the accident are ongoing.
