In Les Diablerets in the canton of Vaud, a snow groomer overturned and fell 400 meters down a slope.
The 35-year-old driver has now succumbed to his serious injuries in hospital, according to the Vaud cantonal police.
The cause of the accident remains unclear.
The accident occurred on Monday around 8:35 a.m. when the man wanted to drive the snow groomer back to the mountain station in the Glacier 3000 ski area. Before entering the shelter, the vehicle tipped to the side for reasons that are still unclear and fell down a slope, according to the Vaud cantonal police. The vehicle remained badly damaged 400 meters further down the valley.
The rescue workers from the mountain station, supported by members of the rescue team, came to the driver’s aid. He was thrown out of the cabin of the snow groomer. The 35-year-old Swiss resident of the region sustained life-threatening injuries and was flown by helicopter to Chuv University Hospital in Lausanne.
The responsible public prosecutor opened an investigation to determine the exact circumstances of the accident.
