Huawei presented its brand new premium ultra-portable, the MateBook X Pro. A computer that focuses on its power, its lightness as well as its finesse. We were able to take it in hand and we were impressed. The MateBook 14, a much more affordable PC, also won us over.
Huawei held a major conference in Dubai to present its new products. Among the products highlighted, the MateBook X Pro, 14-inch laptop which wants to be powerful, ultra thin and ultra light at the same time. We were able to handle it and our first impression was extremely positive, although we still have some doubts.
On the design side, Huawei is not reinventing the wheel by taking the main lines of the range, the latest model of which was released in 2022. We therefore still find this refined, sober and devilishly aesthetic aspect, inspired by what Apple does on its MacBook Air . We should point out a welcome novelty: a textured aluminum chassis (blue, black or white) very pleasant under the fingers which gives a certain character when handling. This Matebook X Pro is simply amazing.

The Matebook X Pro impresses with its weight
The Matebook offering all this in a ridiculously small chassis: 13 mm thick and 980 grams.
If it’s not the first ultra portable to go under the kilo mark, it’s the only one to do so with an Ultra 9. On paper, it’s impressive. Huawei likes to compare its baby to the latest MacBook Aira comparison to its advantage since Apple’s product exceeds 1.2 kilos.
In hand, the lightness is surprising, so much so that we thought we only had an empty chassis just for the demo. Even holding it with two fingers is easy and we say to ourselves that it will be perfect for everyday carrying in a bag.
However, we are a little concerned about the solidity of the product, the metal giving the impression of bending very easily. Some sacrifices also had to be made in terms of ports, with “only” 3 USB Type-C ports present. You will need an adapter for office work.
The screen is not left out, since Huawei has chosen an OLED panel, today almost obligatory on a premium PC. A 14.2-inch panel (3120 x 2080 pixels) which promises great color fidelity with an average delta E below 1 and a high refresh rate of 120 Hz. Add to this a 70 Wh battery for autonomy exceeding 11 hours on video. Last point, the keyboard is appreciable, with a stroke that is certainly short, but has excellent resistance.
Huawei promises a lot with its MateBook X Pro 2024, but we must remain vigilant and wait for our test. For example, we are curious about the management of heating and noise and we fear a restricted processor. Let’s hope that’s not the case. The MateBook X Pro 2024 will be available in France during the month of June, here are the prices announced:
- Intel Core Ultra 7, 16 GB of RAM, 1 TB of storage: 1999 euros
- Intel Core Ultra 9, 32 GB of RAM, 2 TB of storage: 2499 euros

The MateBook 14, Huawei’s real asset
The MateBook This is where it comes into play the MateBook 14, the brand’s other premium ultra-portable.
Certainly, it’s a bit less dreamy with its weight of 1.3 kilos and its anodized aluminum chassis that’s more classic to the touch. It nonetheless remains a high-end PC, with 2.8K OLED touchscreen and an announced autonomy of 19 hours. For lovers of original design, Huawei still tries to seduce with a very successful green color.
No surprises when we get started, The MateBook 14 is a PC that is pleasant to handle and visually chic. This is a significant refresh for a range which, like the X Pro, has not had the right to a new model since 2022. The MateBook 14 will be available in June, here are the prices announced:
- Intel Core Ultra 5, 16 GB of RAM, 512 GB of storage: 1099 euros
- Intel Core Ultra 5, 16 GB of RAM, 1 TB of storage: 1199 euros
- Intel Core Ultra 7, 16 GB of RAM, 1 TB of storage: 1399 euros
Of course, we will test these two products in due course.
