Accidents in the snow – frontal in Schlitters, Blechsalat in Jenbach

The difficult road conditions due to the severe onset of winter, sometimes coupled with an excessively risky driving style, led to the first accidents on the Tyrolean roads on Monday in the current turbulent weather phase.

At around 1:10 p.m., a local (64) drove his car from Strass im Zillertal in the direction of Schlitters. At the same time, a 19-year-old steered his car in the opposite direction. Shortly before the underpass of the B169, the 64-year-old’s vehicle slipped into oncoming traffic due to the snow-covered road and the inappropriate driving speed and collided head-on with the 19-year-old’s oncoming car. The two drivers involved in the accident were slightly injured, and the vehicles involved suffered severe damage Vehicles (all driven by locals) collided one after the other. The drivers were all fitted with winter tires, but only some had all-wheel drive and no snow chains. No one was injured and the vehicles sustained property damage. All vehicles were still drivable after the accident. The road was closed for about an hour and a half for the duration of the clean-up work. At midday in Kramsach, a local (18) drove a car on a local road in Kramsach/Mariatal to pick up a colleague (19). When the driver saw his colleague, he entered the lane and wanted to cross the street to get into the car on the passenger side. Due to the heavy snowfall and the wintry driving conditions, the 18-year-old was unable to stop his vehicle in time in front of the 19-year-old and touched him with the right side of the vehicle. As a result, the pedestrian fell and was seriously injured.
