MediaTek has been more and more convincing in recent years, and its Dimensity 9200 should confirm this trend.

MediaTek’s next high-end chip should offer very convincing performance, according to a benchmark published by leaker Digital Chat Station.

A GPU that only looks good

On AnTuTu, the chip, which will likely be named Dimensity 9200 when it’s official, hits a score of 1.26 million. That’s more than any current Android smartphone, whether it’s powered by a Dimensity from MediaTek, a Snapdragon from Qualcomm, an Exynos from Samsung or a Tensor from Google.

The GPU score is particularly promising (550,767) and really widens the gap with the best chips of the moment. According to the source, the Dimensity 9200 will pack an Immortalis-G715, the new and most powerful GPU designed by ARM. This promises 15% higher performance than the Immortalis-G710 as well as support for ray-tracing and VRS technologies.

A CPU with Cortex-X3 core

The CPU results are less impressive and peak at 273,413. However, we can expect higher performance, since Digital Chat Station claims that the Dimensity 9200 processor is based on the Cortex-X3 core, against a Cortex-X2 on its predecessors.

The reasons for this score below expectations can be multiple. We can think that MediaTek still has to make optimization adjustments to best exploit the Cortex-X3 for example. It is also not known what kind of device was used to perform the benchmark, the limitations can also come from there. Furthermore, GSMArena notes that the temperature of the chip during the test seems to indicate that it has not really been put to the test and that it could have more in the belly.

The Dimensity 9200, if that’s its name, could be formalized around November, close to the announcement of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 (November 15). The first smartphones equipped with the SoC should be marketed in the first quarter of 2023.
