Acer: The bottom of new laptops is now made of this material

CES

Acer is introducing new Aspire series laptops ahead of CES 2024. The Taiwanese manufacturer surprises with its choice of materials.

The topics of “sustainability” and “environmental awareness” are also playing an increasingly important role in consumer electronics. In 2021, Acer introduced the Aspire Vero, a model that takes this trend into account. 30 percent of the housing was made of recycled plastic. At CES 2024, the manufacturer is now showing a new edition of the device with the Acer Aspire Vero 16 model, which was announced in December. Here the housing consists of 60 percent recycled materials.

However, Acer is not just stopping at such “lighthouse projects”, but will also be using recycled plastic for the models in the Aspire Go series in the future. The manufacturer is now announcing this at the trade fair in Las Vegas. The underside, also known as the D cover, has a PCR content of 30 percent in the 2024 generation. It’s certainly just a small step, but it should still be noticeable given the significantly higher volumes of the Aspire Go series compared to the Vero series.

Recycled plastic now also in the Aspire Go series

The Aspire Go series consists of a 15-inch and a 14-inch model, each powered by an Intel Core i3 N-Series processor. The smaller model is also available with an AMD Ryzen 7000. Windows 11 and software solutions from Acer that are intended to improve the quality of video calls are preinstalled. These include Acer PurifiedVoice, an AI-based noise reduction system.

The first variants of the 14 model are scheduled to go on sale here in February, with other models to follow from March. Prices start at 529 euros.
