Acharnés (Netflix): A season 2 with Anne Hathaway and Jake Gyllenhaal?

Relentless Initially it was only going to be a limited series. But things could well change given the success of the series co-produced by Netflix and A24, and given the amount of awards it has accumulated at recent awards ceremonies.

New season, new cast

According to Deadlinethe creator of the series, Lee Sung Jin, is currently in the process of choosing the cast for a second season which would revolve around a conflict between two couples.

The webzine reports that one of the couples could even be played by Charles Melton (May December) and Cailee Spaeny (Priscilla), while the other would be played by Jake Gyllenhaal (Brokeback Mountain) and Anne Hathaway (The devil wears Prada).

As of yet, no deal has been reached and Netflix has yet to officially renew Relentlessbut it appears that the scripts for a new limited season have been written and that Netflix and A24 are preparing to begin production on the show by the end of summer, or the beginning of fall.

An acclaimed series

If Relentless becomes an anthology and indeed returns for a season 2, this will come as no surprise. In addition to having spent five weeks in the top most viewed English-language series on Netflix, the series won eight Emmy Awards (including best director and best screenwriter for Lee Sung Jin), three Golden Globes, and has just winning several awards at the Independent Spirit Awards, Producers Guild Awards and Screen Actors Guild Awards.

As a reminder, the first season ofRelentless follows the repercussions of disproportionate proportions of a violent altercation at the wheel between two complete strangers. Steven Yeun and Ali Wong were the stars of this season which stood out for its caustic black humor. It remains to be seen whether season 2 will manage to maintain this level.
