Across the country – wave of aid after the great flood is now rolling in

A new special directive from the state to repair disaster damage is intended to help those affected in an unbureaucratic manner.

Even if the exact extent of the damage after the storm disaster at the weekend cannot yet be quantified, it is already clear that the damage will run into the millions.Almost 4,000 firefightersAround 3,800 emergency personnel from almost 200 fire departments as well as eight disaster relief units, the federal army and all employees of the state’s road construction authorities in the skilled trades have supported those affected by the storms in the clean-up work.New directiveRapid help for the thousands of people affected is the order of the day. This is why Governor Hans Peter Doskozil has announced a new special directive for repairing disaster damage. Employees of the state and the district authorities will support the municipalities in documenting the damage from Wednesday. The help for the people should above all be unbureaucratic. Coordination takes place via the municipalities; the victims do not have to report to the state on their own initiative. “Regulating damage” “Now it’s about getting to the people on site as quickly as possible to regulate the damage,” says Doskozil. It is assumed that in about three weeks we will be ready to record all the damage and to pay for the necessary investments in repairs. Hotline for those affected In order to provide particularly affected families with quick and unbureaucratic support, Caritas Burgenland has also set up its own hotline to help people in need locally with financial support and vouchers. Caritas Director Melanie Balaskovics announced that 100,000 euros will be made available for this purpose. In addition, we are in contact with the parish networks in the region in order to actively offer help from Caritas. Helping companies Help is also available for companies “that receive emergency aid money from our aid fund,” explains Chamber of Commerce President Andreas Wirth. The Chamber of Commerce is working hard on a quick, unbureaucratic aid measure. To this end, the Chamber of Commerce’s regional offices will visit affected businesses on site to assess the extent of the damage. “We are also holding talks with the SVS and the WKÖ in order to set up a joint disaster fund,” explains Chamber of Commerce Director Harald Schermann.
