Activated in a flash: Hidden FritzBox function saves you money

There are many approaches to saving electricity in your own household. Devices that you only use rarely or at certain times, but which still run around the clock, are particularly useful. However, not all of them can simply be switched off; For example, the refrigerator has to run at the same constant temperature at night as it does during the day so that the food stays fresh.

The situation is different with Internet routers, for example. Many people only use the Internet during the day and into the early evening. After that, the router usually runs without using the WLAN at all.

Your FritzBox cannot switch itself off completely; In order to save energy and thus money, you can activate a timer on many FritzBoxes and other modern routers in which the WLAN signal is switched off, e.g. overnight, and thus conveniently save electricity.

Here you can now set individual days of the week and time periods in which the WLAN is switched off according to your personal daily routine.

What you should keep in mind, however: Devices that are otherwise connected to the WLAN are of course no longer connected overnight. This can be a hindrance for any updates, for example. If you have these devices in view, you can initiate the updates manually or set that the devices should only update in the WLAN.
