Actress Mylène Demongeot is dead


The French cinema star of the 1960s, who had returned to success thanks to “Camping”, died following a long illness at the age of 87.

It is with a broken heart that Henry-Jean Servat announced the death of French actress Mylène Demongeot on Thursday 1er December, with Free lunch. “She was a friend for over 40 years. She died after a long illness,” he said. Mylène Demongeot, who was compared to Brigitte Bardot at the start of her career, died at the age of 87. Mylène Demongeot died “early afternoon” in a Parisian hospital, her press officer told AFP.

Made famous by the “Fantomas” series in the 1960s with Louis de Funès and Jean Marais, Mylène Demongeot, whose real name is Marie-Hélène Demongeot, had broken into the cinema thanks to her role as Abigail in The Witches of Salem alongside Yves Montand and Simone Signoret. She also co-starred with David Niven in Hello Sadness of Preminger, or to Alain Delon in Weak Women.

Committed to the animal cause

The actress, who was not confined to the popular cinema which made her popularity, will have toured as well with Jean Marais, Yves Montand as Roger Moore. Blonde hair, smiling face, Mylène Demongeot was often compared to Brigitte Bardot, with whom she shared the same love of animals and the environment, and of whom she was even presented as a rival.

A popular figure, she was in demand right to the end, still playing a role in Retirement homea comedy with Kev Adams and Gérard Depardieu, one of the rare French films to exceed two million admissions in 2022. “Mylène Demongeot was a committed actress, particularly sensitive to the defense of animal and environmental causes and the right to die with dignity,” said his relatives in a press release announcing his death.
