Google Contacts has just received a new update. For the occasion, the application includes a new method for adding a personalized ringtone to your favorite contacts.
Update after update, the Mountain View firm strives to improve the formula offered by Google Contacts. Difficult you will tell me to revolutionize the concept, Google Contacts being simply a directory. Nevertheless, Google can, for example, work on the application interface.
This is also what was done a few days ago with the latest patch published on March 12, 2024. With version 4.27.26.615093907, Google Contacts now brings together in a Connected Applications tab all the additional platforms linked to a contact in their directory such as WhatsApp or Telegram for example.

Adding a custom ringtone just got easier on Google Contacts
Well, as the Spandroid blog reveals, this update has included another improvement. This time it concerns a functionality known to users, namely the ability to add a personalized ringtone to your favorite contacts. Practical in particular for identifying a caller by ear.
To sum up, the new version of Google Contacts makes the process easier. Now it only takes a few clicks to add John Williams’ Imperial March to your mother-in-law’s number. Here are the steps to follow :
- Open Google Contacts on your smartphone
- At the bottom right, tap the Fix & Manage tab
- From this new window, look in the other tools for the Contact Ringtones tab
- Now click on Add Contact Ringtone
- Choose the contact of your choice
- Shop among the vast selections offered by the system
By default, you can opt for all the sounds from the Android library. They are also classified in different categories such as Precious Stones, Natural Elements, Material Adventures, Classic, Minimalist, Real World or even Retro.
As a reminder, since an update published in December 2023, Google Contacts also allows you to locate your loved ones anywhere and anytime. To do this, the application retrieves the position of the contacts that currently share their location via Google Maps. Of course, this feature is not an open door to espionage. Your contacts can stop the service at any time.
