A price drop that concerns, to a lesser extent, also Meta’s other virtual reality headset, the Quest 2.
Launched on October 25, the Quest Pro mixed reality headset by Meta will experience a remarkable price drop. The thing was confirmed by the company itself through a press release which also concerns the Quest 2, but only in its 256 GB version.
The Quest Pro drops below $1,000
Meta’s communication of course emphasizes the new accessibility of the Quest Pro: ” whether you’re looking to practice immersive games, get creative, or collaborate with your colleagues, there’s never been a better time to get started in virtual reality “.
Initially offered at 1,499.99 dollars (1,799.99 euros), the Quest Pro is designed for multiple uses, playful and professional. However, this versatility does not seem to have convinced the public and Meta is forced to revise its price (significantly) downwards: -33% in the space of four months, it drops to 999.99 dollars or (to be confirmed) 1 €199.99.
Such a change in such a short time, and while we are talking about rising inflation, raises questions. Necessarily. But, another hypothesis is possible, it could indeed be that Meta was very greedy at the launch of a product which does not cost it so much to produce?
The Quest 2, 256 GB at $429.99
In reality, there’s a good chance it’s a mix of both options. Mark Zuckerberg firmly believed in the qualities of his product and probably could not imagine a commercial failure, even relative.
The desire to install virtual reality in as many homes as possible and as many companies as possible – an objective that has never left the boss of Meta – is also reflected in another drop in price, a drop which is perhaps even more surprising.
Indeed, the Quest 2 – exclusively VR headset – will drop from $499.99 to $429.99. The discount is obviously less important than on the Quest Pro, but while it concerns the 256 GB version, this brings it considerably closer to the price of the 64 GB, still at 399.99 dollars.
The Quest 2 drop is set tomorrow, in the following countries: Germany, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, South Korea, Denmark, Spain, United States, Finland, France, Iceland, Italy, Japan, Norway, Netherlands Netherlands, UK, Sweden, Switzerland and Taiwan.
For the repositioning of the Quest Pro, there is also talk of March 5, but only in Canada and the United States. In all the other countries where the helmet is offered (a list similar to the previous one), you have to wait ten more days, until March 15.
