  • According to the authorities, at least eight people died in heavy rain and flooding on the Italian Adriatic coast.
  • More people are missing in the Marche region.

The Ancona provincial government said the flooding was a result of Thursday afternoon’s persistent rains. Marche President Francesco Acquaroli wrote on Facebook that the “very serious meteorological crisis” in the region is a cause for extreme concern.

On Thursday, civil protection called on residents of the coastal town of Senigallia north of Ancona to seek out higher-lying areas in view of the flooding. People are still missing in the Marche region, including a child, according to the Ansa news agency.

Emergency services are still looking for survivors. Footage released by the fire brigade showed rescuers driving through the streets of the coastal town of Senigallia on inflatable boats to save people. Other helpers tried to clear an underpass of debris.
