“People who don’t drink at all seem strange to me”

Advertising icon Friedrich Liechtenstein recently started running the “Troya” bar in Berlin. He likes to observe himself when he sits at the counter.
“People who don’t drink anything seem strange to me,” explains advertising icon Friedrich Liechtenstein (67) at the Cuban dinner at the Carl Fritz private club in Berlin-Mitte, to which Eminente Rum from Cuba had invited. The occasion was the Gran Reserva Limited Edition N°1, which rum maestro César Martí presented. And the guests tried eagerly. “Drinking together is very important for a society,” says the “Supergeil” singer Liechtenstein, who recently started running the bar “Troya” in Berlin and rarely keeps his opinion quiet.
The 67-year-old is holding on after a serious one Corona infection two years ago, a strict diet and avoids carbohydrates and sugar – but still likes to spend his time at the counter: “Often alone, in a dark corner. From there I watch the people around me.”

Actor Clemens Schick (51), whose film, the thriller “DogMan” by Luc Besson, is currently in cinemas, also explains: “I love both the taste and the effect. He regularly drinks a glass of wine after a strenuous day of filming Celebrations and eating out.”
The film star has mixed feelings about Cuba, the “Island of Rum”. The country is at the top of his list of travel destinations – not as a tourist, but as an observer of the social situation: Cuba is “a beautiful country, but the people there are facing a social challenge. But I think that culture is always the strongest force in of a society”.
Anna Schürrle: Don’t question it too much!
For model Anna Schürrle (35), health is particularly important. The mother of two and wife of ex-soccer player André Schürrle (32) is an influencer promoting a healthy lifestyle. Alcohol doesn’t really go with it, says Schürrle, but enjoyment is also important. She prefers to drink rosé – but always in moderation. Anything more was out of the question for her because of the children who would call for her from 6 a.m. onwards.
In recent years, there has been an extreme change in the topic of health, notes Schürrle. While people smoked and drank in the 1960s, today people are primarily interested in getting fitter and older. A healthy lifestyle has become desirable for many. “Perhaps people have also become more anxious,” she notes. “In any case, everyone should above all enjoy life and not question it too much,” she advises. There can therefore be no blanket recommendation. “Only everyone can decide for themselves.”
Rum maestro César Martí explains the Cubans’ great reverence for rum
The creator of the exclusive rum, César Martí, explains that rum is a part of Cuban culture. One of the currently fourteen Cuban rum maestros who are highly revered in their homeland. “Rum,” explains Martí, who grew up as a child on his grandfather’s sugar cane plantation, “is not just a drink in Cuba, but a great tradition.” During his speech to the invited company, he raised his glass and called for enjoyment “with passion and heart”. It seems as if he doesn’t just mean rum.
