Allergic or not, we are all ready to do anything to avoid mosquitoes, their bites and their buzzing at night. A natural treatment for less than 10 euros would be very effective. Anti-mosquito apps are to be tested. And a color should be avoided to keep them away. But there is a type of mosquito thatyou have to keep an eye out for: the tiger mosquito.

Health Magazine reveals the advice of a pharmacist if you get bitten. Appeared in France in 2004, the virus vector insect arrived in the South-East, before colonizing the rest of the country. It can promote diseases like dengue fever, chikungunya or zika. Active from May to November, it adapts very well and would affect 71 of the 96 French departments in 2023. The Ministry of Health shared a map specifying those concerned.

What to do if you are bitten by a tiger mosquito?

Asked by Health Magazinepharmacist Aline Légipont explains how to recognize a tiger mosquito: “It measures, in general, 5 millimeters, and anyway, less than a centimeter”. She adds : “He is black, with white stripes on his body., a longitudinal white line in central position on the thorax and with white rings on the legs. Its wings are also black. And he only has one pair of working wings”. The insect is also slower in flight than other mosquitoes, it flies low and seems “unbalance”. It stings more in the morning and late afternoonwhen ordinary mosquitoes prefer night and evening as they sleep during the day.

In the event of a sting, you will notice that this is more painful than a classic mosquito. Although this is benign, it is recommended to clean with water and Marseille soap. If you feel the need, you can put a soothing cream with an antihistamine or use essential oils. The pharmacist suggests:Mix 2 ml of spike lavender essential oil, 2 ml of lemongrass essential oil, 1 ml of peppermint essential oil in 5 ml of calendula oil, and apply 3 to 10 drops of this preparation 3 to 5 times a day in adults”. For a child, first remix one drop of the solution with 2 drops of calendula oil. Do not exceed three applications per day.
