Proceedings initiated against right-wing extremist judge

The Saxon Ministry of Justice wants to prevent former AfD MP Jens Maier from working as a judge again – which he has been able to do since today. Legally, getting kicked out is difficult. The Dresden Regional Court is now starting disciplinary proceedings.

The Dresden Regional Court has initiated disciplinary proceedings against the former AfD member of the Bundestag and judge Jens Maier, who is considered to be right-wing extremist. The court sees sufficient factual evidence to justify the suspicion of a disciplinary offense by Maier, as announced by the State Ministry of Justice. There is a suspicion that the lawyer “violated the official duties of loyalty to the constitution, political moderation and respectful and trustworthy behavior”.

Saxony’s Justice Minister Katja Meier welcomed the initiation of disciplinary proceedings. “All judges and civil servants in the service of the Free State of Saxony must commit themselves to the free democratic basic order within the meaning of the Basic Law and must ensure that it is observed at all times,” said the Greens politician. Citizens should be able to rely on it.

In February 2022, the Ministry of Justice itself had applied for Maier to be retired and temporarily banned from conducting official business. The Judicial Service Court in Leipzig has not yet decided on these applications.

One of the leading figures of the “wing”

Maier sat in the Bundestag for the AfD from 2017 to 2021. After he was not re-elected last year, according to the Ministry of Justice, he “timely” applied for return to his former employment. According to the Law on Members of Parliament, he is entitled to do so. The 60-year-old has been assigned to the Dippoldiswalde district court as his place of work since Monday.

Maier is classified as a right-wing extremist by the Saxon Office for the Protection of the Constitution. He was also considered one of the leading figures of the right-wing extremist and at least officially dissolved so-called wing of the AfD.
