Afghanistan asks Switzerland to temporarily stop repatriation

The State Secretariat for Migration (SEM) announced this on Thursday at the request of Keystone-SDA. It thus confirmed reports from the “Neue Zürcher Zeitung” and from Swiss radio and television SRF. Afghanistan’s request was also sent to EU states and other European countries. According to the SEM, the reasons for this are territorial conquests by the Taliban and increasing corona infections.

“The State Secretariat for Migration is aware of the tense situation in Afghanistan,” wrote the SEM. According to current asylum and eviction practice, the execution of the eviction is therefore “only reasonable under particularly favorable individual circumstances” – for example if the persons concerned have a sustainable social network. In addition, returns are only reasonable to the three government-controlled cities of Kabul, Herat and Mazar-i-Sharif.
