The fifth and final part of the adaptation of the literary series written by Anna Todd is entitled After: Chapter 5 (After Everything in VO) and it is based on the novels After Ever Happy And Before.
In this final film, still directed by Castille Landon and produced by Jennifer Gibgot (17 Years Again, Sexy Dance), Hardin has been completely lost since his separation from Tessa, who could not digest that the young man had published a book about their story without having warned her.
Despite the success of his first novel, Hardin is still depressed and only thinks of Tessa with whom he imagines he will end his days. Trish Daniels (Louise Lombard) and Christian Vance (Stephen Moyer), the young man’s parents, try to cheer him up and want to convince him to change his mind to move forward, especially since he has the obligation to send a first script of his highly anticipated second novel to his publisher.

Hardin then decides to go to Portugal, where there is Nathalie (Mimi Keene aka Ruby in Sex Education), a former conquest whom he injured five years previously. This trip will allow Hardin to make a clean sweep of the past and make amends with Nathalie.
We then learn that Hardin recorded a video of his antics with Nathalie, without her consent, to win a bet and that the video was then sent to everyone. Nathalie suffered greatly from this betrayal and was unable to pursue her dreams. She therefore took refuge in Portugal, where she made new friends, including Sebastian (Benjamin Mascolo) who will attack Hardin.
As Hardin realizes the extent of his mistakes, he changes his behavior and thinks back to old memories shared with Tessa (flashbacks from previous films). The young man embarks on a painful path towards redemption which he puts on paper for his second novel, which focuses on his story with Nathalie.

He does not make the same mistake again and has the young woman read the draft of the book for her approval before publication. Hardin then really seems to have changed and moved forward. Until he finds himself at his half-brother Landon’s (Chance Perdomo) wedding to Nora (Kiana Madeira).
Hardin then finds Tessa there, who seems to appreciate the change made in the young man. The attraction is too strong between the two and they find themselves more in love than ever. Tessa gives Hardin a second chance and the two make very serious promises to each other, even to the point that Hardin asks her to marry him.
After: Chapter 5 ends with a sequence from the future of Hardin, now a best-selling author, and Tessa, who are living in their own apartment in London. The couple is married and has a daughter named Emery (Aya Ivanova) and Tessa is pregnant with their second child. Hardin and Tessa are therefore entitled to a happy ending in this final chapter of the After franchise.
