Bielefeld’s anxious wait for striker Klos

It was already overtime in the relegation duel between Arminia Bielefeld and VfB Stuttgart when the result became irrelevant: Bielefeld’s Fabian Klos injured his head in a collision. The striker is in the hospital.

In the Bundesliga game between Arminia Bielefeld and VfB Stuttgart, Fabian Klos injured his head shortly before the end. The Bielefeld attacker had to be taken off the field on a stretcher after colliding with team-mate Alessandro Schöpf. The 34-year-old was taken to the hospital, as Bielefeld’s coach Frank Kramer confirmed. “Our thoughts are with him and we hope that somehow it’s happier than it looked,” said Kramer, who reported the mood in the dressing room was depressed. Arminia professional Robin Hack was shocked after the game: “It didn’t look good. I hope he gets better soon.”

Klos immediately hailed the medical staff himself, after which he was treated for a long time and then covered his face with his hands as he was taken off the field. “Let’s just hope that he’ll be fine soon, that he’ll be back with us soon, that he’s healthy,” said Kramer, adding: “That’s the most important thing. That always comes first.”

Because it took so long for the paramedics to bring the stretcher, VfB attacker Sasa Kalajdzic ran towards them and took the transport device from them. There was applause for this from the Bielefeld audience – and Bielefeld’s trainer Kramer: “Sasa just went too slowly. Since he probably felt superior to the paramedics in terms of speed, he accelerated it. That was extraordinary, I would like to thank you very much for that.” Kalajdzic had scored the lead for Stuttgart at 1-1.

Fabian Klos announced in February that he was leaving Arminia Bielefeld after eleven years. “After eleven years I don’t want to say goodbye with relegation,” said the striker, who has scored 162 goals in 387 games for Bielefeld. “Now I look forward to every home game a little more than usual,” said the club’s all-time record goalscorer. “Of course it would be nice to score another goal at the end.”
