Spahn calls summit to booster vaccinations
Medical representatives criticize him, but Health Minister Spahn sticks: Booster vaccinations made “a very decisive difference”. He also calls for a summit on the subject.
After the criticism of his statements on Corona booster vaccinations, Federal Health Minister Jens Spahn called for an early federal-state summit on the subject. “Currently the booster speed in Germany’s practices is not enough. We need a booster summit from the federal and state governments,” said the CDU politician of “Bild am Sonntag”.
The so-called booster vaccinations to refresh after a complete vaccination are, in the opinion of doctors’ representatives, above all necessary for the elderly or nursing staff, but not for everyone.
Spahn said, on the other hand, current data from Israel showed “that boosting makes a crucial difference in breaking the fourth wave”. The minister recently had a booster vaccination himself.
Söder: “Booster vaccinations for everyone”
Meanwhile, Bavaria’s Prime Minister Markus Söder called for greater use of antibody tests and booster vaccinations for all age groups. “We have to rely much more on antibody tests. We need the booster vaccinations not only for those over 70, but for everyone,” says Söder of “Bild am Sonntag”.
A third vaccination after six months makes sense for everyone, said Söder. The traffic light parties basically declared the pandemic over while the number of infections skyrocketed. They should not only tackle their favorite projects, but would have to coordinate with the countries that needed a clear legal basis for their corona measures.
The Standing Vaccination Commission (STIKO) recommended booster vaccinations for people over 70 years of age at the beginning of October. In addition, residents of old people’s homes and nursing staff are to be offered a third dose of vaccination, as well as people with certain diseases.
