It is now (almost) official: NIO, the car manufacturer specializing in electric cars, will indeed launch its first smartphone in the coming months. The firm secured all the deals it needed to enter this already busy market. A release is expected before the end of the year.
It’s been a few months that NIO no longer hides its desire to enter the smartphone market. Last March, its CEO William Li confirmed that his company is developing its first mobile in-house. What he did not say, however, is how advanced the project is. In July, the firm notably obtained authorization to connect to the Chinese Internet network, its preferred market.
Now, NIO has overcome all obstacles to the marketing of its famous smartphone in the Middle Kingdom. According to several sources, the automaker is even planning a launch for the third quarter of this year, before October. We also know several elements of its technical sheet, which will not have to be ashamed in the face of competition.

According to leakers, the “NIO Phone” would thus be equipped with a processor Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 along with 12GB LPDDR5X RAM. It would sport a display with a refresh rate of 120Hz, the size of which is not yet known. Everything would turn on Android 13 with no less than 1 TB of storage. NIO has therefore not done things by halves and very clearly intends to come and scratch market share from the big name in the sector?
At least, at least in China. Indeed, it is currently difficult to say with certainty that the NIO Phone will be available in our region. If the manufacturer does indeed plan to market its cars in France soon, this is not yet the case, despite an increasingly strong presence in Europe. It’s a safe bet that leaks will multiply in the coming weeks.
