North Korea suspects an Olympic conspiracy
In the summer of 2021, North Korea is not sending any athletes to the Olympic Games in Tokyo. They justify it with the pandemic. This is followed by the IOC’s exclusion from the Beijing Winter Games. Nothing other than “machinations of hostile forces,” reports North Korea – and suspects a conspiracy.
North Korea sees the reason for its exclusion from the Olympic Winter Games in Beijing in the behavior of hostile powers. “We cannot take part in the Olympic Games because of the machinations of hostile forces and the global pandemic,” reported the state media, citing a letter from the National Olympic Committee (NOK) for North Korea and the Ministry of Sports. Among other things, the letter was sent to the NOK of China.
According to the decision of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), the largely isolated North Korea will be excluded from the Olympic community from last September until the end of 2022. The IOC executive had accused the country of violating the Olympic charter because it had unilaterally decided not to send athletes to the summer games in Tokyo. North Korea had been warned of the consequences of not participating in Tokyo, it said at the time. North Korea justified its decision to waive the Olympics at the end of March with the consequences of the corona pandemic.
The letter quoted by the North Korean media did not reveal who was meant by the “hostile forces”. However, the US was criticized for its diplomatic boycott of the Beijing Games. North Korea accused the USA “and its vassals” of becoming “more and more undisguised in their actions against China”. At the same time, North Korea expressed its solidarity with the Chinese Olympic hosts in the letter. The preparations for the games were satisfactory thanks to the efforts of the government and the population and despite the pandemic.
The letter was also addressed to the organizing committees for the Winter Olympics and the Winter Paralympics. Following the Olympic Games in February, the Paralympic Games will take place in March.
