Google News

For two two days, the inhabitants of Russia no longer have access to Google News. The Russian media monitoring agency announced the banning of Google’s service in the country in response to numerous sanctions imposed by the company and European states.

Google News is accused of giving access to “many documents containing unreliable information about the special military operation in Ukraine”. The information war continues.

End clap for Google News

The Interfax news agency informs us that the information aggregator Google News was banned from Russia two days ago by decision of Roskomnadzor, the Federal Service for Supervision of Communications and Mass Media. The Google service is accused of sharing anti-Russian propaganda en masse among citizens of the country of the tsars.

After Facebook and Instagram earlier this month, it is therefore a new digital giant which has seen access to some of its services blocked in Russia, in response to the numerous sanctions imposed by these companies and European states. The website TechCrunch was able to confirm the discontinuation of these services by contacting a Google representative who stated: “We have been able to confirm that some people are having difficulty accessing the Google News app and site in Russia and this is not due to any technical issue on our end. We have worked hard to keep news services like News accessible to the people of Russia for as long as possible. »

This decision by Russia therefore seemed inevitable and Google had been expecting it since its first sanctions against the country.
