The announcement of his return was controversial. Sentenced in mid-December to a four-month suspended prison sentence for domestic violence against his future ex-wife, Adrien Quatennens had despite everything said his intention to return to the benches of the National Assembly as of the start of the school year in January. It is now done. The deputy Insoumis made his appearance this Wednesday morning in the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Lower House, after having been crossed near the Palais Bourbon by many parliamentary colleagues. “I welcome the arrival in our committee of a new colleague, Mr Quatennens, welcome to our work”underlined, moreover, not without irony, the MoDem chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee, Jean-Louis Bourlanges.
A return on the sly for the elected representative of the North, who planned, last week again, to postpone his return for at least ten days. According to his lawyer, Maître Jade Dousselin, the mélenchoniste met “some health concerns just detected, requiring additional examinations“. These exams, scheduled for Tuesday, were to give him more information on the exact date of his return. The results therefore probably allowed him to return to the National Assembly.
In addition to his conviction by the courts, Adrien Quatennens is also the subject of a “temporary radiationof four months from the LFI group. This will force him to sit among the non-registered in the coming weeks, alongside in particular the nationalist Emmanuelle Ménard or the sovereignist Nicolas Dupont-Aignan. This, a priori until mid-April. A date, however, considered premature by a number of Insoumis heavyweights, such as Alexis Corbière, who sees it as “a mistake“.
