If the different companies sometimes do not lack imagination when it comes to designing new features, very often they do not hesitate to draw inspiration from the competition when a good idea has been found. New proof today with Snapchat, which in turn incorporates a feature known to users of another platform.

A few days ago, we learned that Instagram was working on a feature to compete with BeReal. Now it’s Snapchat’s turn to look at the competition.

When BeReal inspires other social networks

If until today you had never heard of BeReal, know that it is a social network that was born in 2020. In an attempt to stand out from the competition, the -ci offers a fun concept to say the least: invite its users to post a photo of themselves every day within a limited time and at a different time. In addition, the application allows creators to use the front and rear cameras to film both points of view simultaneously. An original concept that seems to have given ideas to some…

In its latest update, as the teams of XDA Developers We learn it on their site, Snapchat has indeed decided to incorporate the “Dual Camera” functionality, thus following in the footsteps of Instagram. As its name suggests, this new option allows you to film everything that is happening around you at the same time, like what BeReal has been offering for some time.

With Dual Camera, Snapchat still wants to stand out

For those of you most interested, the feature has appeared in the camera toolbar and offers users the ability to shoot in four different configurations: horizontal, vertical, “Picture-in-Picture” and “Cut-out” mode. The latter consists of putting in the background what is captured by the rear camera and cuts out the user (who therefore films himself with the front camera) so that he can overlap it. This is a new way to take advantage of this feature, which should probably entertain those who are used to the platform.

Anyway, it’s a safe bet that Snapchat will integrate new ways to exploit the dual camera in its app in the future. Note that this update is currently being deployed on iOS, but it will take several weeks before arriving on the Android side.
