The future projects of the American company are becoming clearer, thanks to a trademark registration for Duolingo Music and leaked images from the application that made it famous.

Learning a foreign language is not always easy. And if the concept of Duolingo does not necessarily suit everyone, we cannot blame it for not being attractive, original and playful. Other areas of learning could surely benefit from the expertise acquired with the green bird application, and its creators seem well on their way to experimenting with it.

Birds don’t talk, they whistle

Back in March, Duolingo posted some surprising job postings. One of them was looking for a ” expert in music education who has both theoretical knowledge of learning science research and practical teaching experience “. Clearly, the American company was looking for a rather savvy music teacher.

It would obviously be surprising, but not impossible, that such a profile could be used for learning foreign languages. Indeed, after launching an application to teach the little ones to read, and another focused on mathematics, it was quite clear that Duolingo was going to turn to learning music. These rumors have just been fueled by a certain Steve Moser, iOS developer, who discovered elements in the company’s flagship application that speak volumes. There are images of instruments, but also lines of code that refer to piano lessons, drums and more:

Contacted by TechCrunch, the Duolingo spokesperson did not confirm the existence of such an application in the near future. However, he said that the company will have many announcements to make at its annual conference, the Duocon, on October 11. Nothing official, then. It will be interesting to see how the little green bird plans to help us learn music. And who knows, maybe one day he will encourage the author of this article to bring out his guitar, which has been gathering dust for several years.
