It’s already been more than a decade since the developers at Supergiant Games delight us with their independent video game productions where action plays an important role. Bastion, Transistor, Pyre…so many names and projects that the players appreciated, but it is especially with Hades from 2018 then with its final release in 2020 that the San Francisco studio entered the pantheon. Rather than offering anything else for his next game, he decided to capitalize on the success of dungeon crawler rogue-lite by announcing during Game Awards 2022 Hades II, a very nice surprise. This time we will embody Melinoethe sister of Zagreuswhose objective is to kill ChronosTHE Time Titan and his grandfather. Like its predecessor, the title draws its inspiration from the Orphic myths of Greek mythology for its epic, which is much less known to the general public. Initially, it was announced that it would enter into Early Access on PC during the year 2023, before it is postponed to the second quarter of 2024. Its technical test has since taken place in April, giving rise to gameplay which you can review at the end of the article. It is therefore without warning that Supergiant Games launched this Early Access this Monday eveningenough to shake up the week of a good number of players who can now obtain it.
It’s hard to miss it when you go on Steam where it sits on the home page. It is also for sale on L’Epic Games Store. If you decide to go for it, it will cost you €28.99. The developers clarified that Hades IIjust like its predecessor, was thought for a Early Access where it will remain at least until the beginning of 2025. You will therefore have to wait a while if you wait for the final version, which will include the Steam Achievement and the true outcome of the story. Until then, several major updates are planned, spaced several months apart and which will add new features, without counting on fixes based on feedback.
As for its content, Supergiant Games saw the big picture and is clearly not going to steal from us on the goods, since after three years of development, “Hades II already features more environments, enemies and fully voiced characters than the final version of the original Hades game”. Other regions, enemies, events, characters and game systems are also planned, enough to keep fans busy over the coming months. Note that some elements of the HUD or character portraits are still provisional or unfinished. Moreover, the studio does not rule out increasing the price depending on the duration and quantity of additions provided.
Finally, music lovers will be delighted to find the compositions of Darren Korb, who once again created the game’s soundtrack. Even if nothing has been specified, it is difficult to imagine that Hades II will not subsequently be released on consoles, but you will therefore have to be patient. In the meantime, its predecessor is sold for €19.99 on PS5 in a box Fnac and from €23.53 at the house of Cdiscount.
