Ziemiak fights for the disappointed in the CDU
The decision in favor of the CDU candidate for Chancellor Laschet leaves many Söder supporters in the CDU frustrated and disappointed. Some even want to hand over the party membership card. But CDU General Secretary Ziemiak does not want any member to go without a fight.
The CDU leadership wants to wrestle for every disappointed member who, after the decision in favor of party leader Armin Laschet as candidate for chancellor, announces a resignation from the party. “Our aim is to get in touch with everyone,” said CDU General Secretary Paul Ziemiak to the editorial network in Germany. He couldn’t say how many withdrawals there were.
Many members have shown their disappointment that the CDU leadership, after a long struggle, had not decided on CSU boss Markus Söder as a candidate for chancellor. The dispute over the candidacy had revealed considerable cracks between the CDU and CSU, but also within the CDU.
Laschet is currently in digital discussions with district chairmen in various regional associations, said Ziemiak. “Armin Laschet can inspire people especially in personal encounters.” When asked whether Laschet not only wanted Friedrich Merz to join his campaign team, but also his other competitor in the presidential election in January, Norbert Röttgen, the Secretary General said: “Norbert Röttgen is a member of the Presidium.”
