Co-written by thriller author Franck Thilliez (E-syndrome), these 6 episodes operate a daring mix of genres between detective and science fiction. We follow Ludovic, commander of the judicial police in Brest, in 2025. 27 years earlier, he lost his wife, Mélanie, in an accident. One day, at a crime scene, the investigator discovers a temporal flaw that could well allow him to save her. Except that Ludovic has since rebuilt his life with Parvana and their son, Sam, and that changing the past would certainly upset his present…
Intelligent and well put together, Vortex is not free from certain faults, notably in the acting of certain actors and in a few clichés of writing. But the series takes us into its romantic and fantastic whirlwind, while revolutionizing the use of special effects in France. Vortex was thus the first French creation to use the “volume” technique (or StageCraft), popularized by The Mandalorian, on such a large scale. French television is often criticized for not venturing enough into the genre and science fiction, and it’s true.
